Description
As I stand before my sculpture, I find myself grappling with an unsettling sense of discontent. What once sparked joy and admiration now evokes a wave of doubt. Crafted from a plaster mold of my upper body, the piece is painted white with golden spots that catch the light, while the back remains a deep, contemplative black. It stands mounted on a sleek black metal pole, with a wooden base that I’ve adorned in black and nearly encrusted with gold.
This work was intended to symbolize the duality of self—embracing both vulnerability and strength. However, my initial excitement has waned, replaced by a critical lens that exposes the flaws I once overlooked. I see the imperfections and the choices that now feel out of sync with my artistic vision. Yet, amid this inner turmoil, I am reminded that art is a dialogue—not just with the audience, but with myself.
The golden spots once represented moments of enlightenment, glimmering against the starkness of the white surface, yet now they seem to reflect the weight of expectation. This piece is a snapshot of my journey, capturing a fleeting moment of self-expression, even as I wrestle with its execution.
Though my feelings toward this sculpture may shift, it remains a testament to the evolution of my artistic voice—a reminder that the process of creation is filled with highs and lows. Perhaps, in time, I will come to appreciate it anew or find a way to reimagine its purpose within my body of work.
